WELCOME TO SCHOOL OF HUMAN KIND

Recovering from Boarding School: A Journey to Belonging

with SORREL PINDAR and JOHN BRITTON

If you went to boarding school and found it difficult, you may have thought you could put it all behind you the day you left. But the experience of boarding school casts a long shadow. Even those of us who thrived at school may come to realise that it didn’t prepare us well for social and personal relationships.

The trauma of boarding school can lead to a constellation of symptoms in adulthood, including:

• anxiety & depression

• addiction

• relationship breakdown

• self-doubt

• fear of abandonment

• difficulty being present

• a tendency to overwork

One of the key complaints of many boarding school ‘survivors’ is feeling like we don’t belong.

John and Sorrel are both boarding school survivors, who have discovered some of the secrets of getting free of the long shadow of boarding school. In this workshop, we will be your guides on this journey to belonging. Wherever you are now, that sense of belonging will give you the resilience you need to find greater peace, connection and contentment.

The workshop will take you three phases:

1. We’ll start with the past, acknowledging both the challenges of boarding school and the adaptations you created to cope with those challenges.

2. Then we’ll move into the present and explore how those adaptations are playing out in your adult life.

3. Finally we’ll approach the future as we reveal some of the secrets to getting free of that long shadow and creating a glorious life.
